What are the advantages of liquid soaps compared to bar soaps?
While both liquid and bar soaps can utilize natural ingredients, Castile liquid soaps by Yazhs offer distinct advantages:
- Gentle Cleansers: Formulated with potassium hydroxide, known for its mildness compared to sodium hydroxide, Castile liquid soaps are gentler on skin, making them ideal for individuals with sensitive and dry skin.
- Supports Sebum Regulation: Made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil alone instead of Coconut or Palm or any other hard oils, our Castile liquid soaps are well-suited for various uses like face washes, body washes, and shampoos. They help maintain the skin’s natural sebum balance, preventing excessive dryness or oiliness.
- Convenient and Ready to Use: Unlike Castile bar soaps that require curing, Castile liquid soaps are ready for immediate use, offering convenience.
- Multipurpose: Compared to bar soaps, liquid soaps offer superior dispensability, lathering, and rinsing properties, making them versatile for various cleaning applications.
- Assured Saponification: Our meticulous hot process ensures complete conversion of oils into soap, resulting in a safe and effective product.
- Pure Ingredients: We eschew pre-made bases, noodles, and synthetic surfactants, prioritizing a purer and more natural cleansing experience for our customers.
In essence, Castile liquid soaps stand out for their gentle cleansing, support for natural sebum balance, versatility, and commitment to natural ingredients, making them a popular choice for individuals seeking a holistic approach to hygiene.
What’s all natural about the soap making? Isn’t potassium hydroxide (lye) a chemical?
While potassium hydroxide (lye) is technically a chemical, its use in soap making holds a natural history. Archaeological evidence places soap-making practices back to the Babylonians (2800 BC) who utilized ash, a naturally occurring source of potassium hydroxide, for saponification.
At YAZHS, we remain true to the traditional approach, utilizing the established method of saponification. This process involves combining a fatty acid (from oils) with an alkali (potassium hydroxide) to create soap (salts) and glycerin. This reaction falls under the category of natural chemistry, occurring without additional processing or harmful byproducts. Thus the end product soap is totally biodegradable. It can be consumed by the microorganisms present in the sewage / land & can be broken down into elements that can return to nature.
Modern-day surfactants, even those labeled “natural,” often undergo extensive chemical processing before reaching their final form. This can involve harsh chemicals and additional steps that deviate from the natural saponification process. They might or might not biodegrade depending on the process involved.
In essence, while potassium hydroxide is a chemical, its historical and natural application in soap making allows us to create a product free from harsh chemicals and unnecessary processing, while also being readily biodegradable.
How are your liquid soaps made? What’s the difference between methods?
At YAZHS, we prioritize quality and control by crafting our liquid soaps in small batches using traditional saponification methods. This hands-on approach allows us to closely monitor the process and ensure maximum consistency between batches. With the additional benefit of the end product being completely biodegradable.
Understanding Liquid Soap Production:
Liquid soap production can be categorized into three primary methods:
- Traditional Saponification (Our Method): This time-honored technique involves combining natural oils with an alkali (lye) to create soap molecules. This method produces the purest form of liquid soap, offering a number of benefits for the skin.
- Pre-Made Soap Bases: These commercially available bases offer a quicker production process but may contain additives or synthetic ingredients.
- Natural Surfactants: While derived from natural sources, these ingredients often undergo extensive processing and lack the inherent benefits of traditional saponification.
Why We Choose Traditional Saponification:
While the traditional method requires more time and effort, it provides several key advantages:
- Purest Ingredients: We utilize premium oils and avoid pre-made bases or synthetic surfactants, resulting in a cleaner and more natural product.
- Enhanced Skin Benefits: Traditional saponification creates a soap rich in beneficial properties that may be absent in other methods.
- Biodegradability: The liquid soaps from Yazhs, produced by the traditional methods are just salts resulting from the saponification of the oils. Thus they are readily biodegradable & are good for the user & the environment.
Additional Considerations:
- We also apply this dedication to quality in our household cleansers, utilizing virgin coconut oil.
- Our commitment to traditional methods allows us to offer exceptional products for our customers.
Does pH really matter for skin & hair care?
As per the various research done on the subject, the answer is NO.
Read it completely to understand the marketing ploy behind pH balanced products.
As long as the products with alkaline pH doesn’t stay on the skin for long enough (for hours together like an alkaline cream / lotion, etc,.) the pH is of less significance for the skin than the ingredients that go into making of the products.
The pH value alone does not determine whether a soap is gentle, harsh, or even effective. The chemical makeup of a product consists of all of the important components, with the pH value being only one of them. Whether a product is gentle or damaging cannot be determined simply by low or high pH values.
These qualities are determined by the complete chemical makeup of the product. In other words, all of the ingredients used to create the skin or hair care product.
A study published in the Dermatology 1997;195:258–262 concluded that all skin cleansing agents, even normal tap water (with a pH of 7), influence the acid mantle of the skin. The purpose of any skin cleaning agent, whether it is pH balanced syndet (Synthetic Detergents) or natural soap, is to get rid of the fatty sebum (oily) layer that holds the dirt and contaminants. While removing this fatty layer makes us feel clean, these fats are an important part of our natural protection.
While commercial skin care companies would like to place all of the blame on skin care products that are not pH balanced, their pH balanced syndets are not better. Again, these pH balanced products contain synthetic detergents that dissolve the natural fat layer on our skin.
Through years of research I personally find that all-natural super fatted handmade body washes / soaps, that retains its natural glycerin, is much more gentle and less drying than syndet bars.
Here are some points with reference to the research that proves pH of wash off products like body washes / soaps are not as important as the ingredients that go into making them.
- Healthy skin will regain its acid mantle within 15 to 30 minutes and problems with the acid mantle are only of concern in if there is a compromised skin barrier. (Dr. Zoe Draelos: “Dermatology” April 1, 2011).
- Another study compared 6 different types of cleansers varying from very alkaline to very acidic. The study found the following
(1) there was a slight increase in pH with the alkaline soaps
(2) all products had a drying effect on stratum corneum (the outer layer of the skin), but soaps that were superfatted had less drying effect
(3) TEWL (transepidermal water loss) measurements showed little change
(4) all changes were completely reversible and all values returned to normal within 90 minutes after washing
Source: Mirela Moldovan and Alina Nanu. “Influence Of Cleansing Product Type On Several Skin Parameters After Single Use.” Farmacia, 2010, Vol. 58, 1
- Skin pH rises 1.1 points following washing with water alone, 1.2 points after washing with alkaline soap and 0.98 points after washing with a synthetic detergent beauty bar. (Takagi, Y., et. al. [2014], “The Long-Term Use of Soap Does Not Affect the pH-Maintenance Mechanism of Human Skin” in Skin Research and Technology)
- Some say that the long-term use of alkaline soaps causes irreversible damage to the acid mantle. A study was done on two groups of people; one group used regular soap (pH about 10) and the second group used an acidic cleanser–each for 5 years. The study concluded that long-term continuous use of real soap does not affect the ability of the acid mantle to maintain the normal mildly acidic pH of skin. (Takagi, Y., et. al. [2014], “The Long-Term Use of Soap Does Not Affect the pH-Maintenance Mechanism of Human Skin” in Skin Research and Technology)
- Some believe that regular soap removes the natural oils from the surface of the skin and decreases skin hydration. To test this, a study compared the skin of babies washed with water, mild acidic cleanser and normal alkaline soap. All three cleansers, including water, decreased the natural skin oils and increased pH. However, there were no differences in the skin hydration. So basically, everything affects the acid mantle, even water. (Gfatter, R., P. Hackl, and F. Braun, 1997, Effects of soap and detergents on skin surface pH, stratum corneum hydration and fat content in infants: Dermatology, v. 195, p. 258-62.)
- Syndets, which are not all the same and vary widely in terms of their chemical structure and skin compatibility, are not necessarily less irritating than soaps. A study done testing the “irritation potential” of syndets and soaps with various pH numbers, seems to show that it is something more than simply a pH number that causes skin irritation. The study discovered the following:
- The least irritating syndet was Dove White, with a pH of 7.53
- The most irritating syndet was Avecycle, with a pH of 4.61
- The least irritating soap was Johnson’s Baby Oat, which had a pH of 12.35
- The most irritating soap was Camay Gala, with a pH of 9.36

What is the main criteria for a soap to be considered good soap?
While cleansing and maintaining the skin’s natural balance are essential functions of soap, truly effective products can offer additional benefits. Here’s what to look for:
- Gentle Cleansing: A good soap should effectively remove dirt and impurities without stripping away natural oils or disrupting the skin’s delicate pH balance.
- Supports Sebum Production: Ideally, soap should encourage the skin’s natural sebum production to maintain a healthy barrier function. This helps the skin feel balanced, neither excessively oily nor dry. Thus shouldn’t require any moisturizer post wash.
- Preserves the Acid Mantle: The acid mantle plays a crucial role in skin health. Effective soaps should cleanse without compromising this protective layer, allowing it to naturally regenerate for optimal health.
What causes dry skin?
Dry skin, a common condition, can have various contributing factors:
- Dehydration: Insufficient water intake can lead to dryness throughout the body, including the skin.
- Environmental Factors: Dry climates, hot showers, and exposure to harsh elements can disrupt the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
- Underlying Skin Conditions: Certain skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis can contribute to dryness.
- Aging: As we age, the skin’s ability to retain moisture naturally decreases.
- Cleansing Products: While not the sole factor, harsh soaps or body washes can disrupt the ability of the skin to produce optimum levels of sebum naturally, contributing to dryness.
Promoting Healthy Skin at YAZHS:
At YAZHS, we prioritize gentle cleansing with our Castile liquid soaps. Formulated with Extra Virgin Olive oil, they are designed to cleanse effectively without disrupting the skin’s delicate balance. By potentially aiding the skin’s natural sebum production, our liquid soaps may help maintain optimal moisture levels and reduce the need for additional moisturizers for most users.
Do we need moisturizers?
While moisturizers serve a valuable purpose for some skin types, their daily use may not be necessary for everyone. Here’s a breakdown of key factors:
- Climate: Individuals living in dry climates or experiencing harsh winters might benefit from regular moisturization.
- Skin Type: Oily skin may not require daily moisturization, while dry or sensitive skin might need it to maintain a healthy barrier.
- Individual Needs: Some individuals may experience skin concerns like eczema or dermatitis that necessitate regular moisturizing.
Understanding Product Types:
Skincare products can be categorized as:
- Wash-Off Products: These cleanse the skin and are rinsed away, having minimal contact time (e.g., soaps, body washes).
- Leave-On Products: These remain on the skin for a longer period (e.g., moisturizers, lotions, creams).
Absorption and Processing:
Wash-off products like well-formulated liquid soaps have minimal absorption due to their limited contact. As they are often salts, their processing by the body is typically straightforward.
Leave-on products, including moisturizers, may be absorbed to a greater extent over time. However, the conversion of oils and butters into salts for processing by the liver is a simplified explanation. The body’s metabolism is complex and processes various types of molecules.
Recommendations:
At YAZHS, we prioritize gentle yet effective cleansing. Yazhs Castile Liquid Soaps formulated with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, may be sufficient to support healthy skin function for all individuals even with severe dryness / acne. However, we recommend you to contact us on whatsapp if you have any doubts regarding the products effectiveness.
Identifying High-Quality Handmade Natural Products:
Evaluating the quality of handmade natural products can be nuanced. Here are some key factors to consider:
- Ingredient Transparency: Look for products with clear and concise ingredient lists. Ideally, the ingredients should be recognizable and preferably derived from natural sources. Research unfamiliar ingredients to understand their potential benefits or concerns.
- Understanding Ingredients: While deciphering all ingredients may not be easy, some basic knowledge can be helpful. Look for natural oils, butters, and essential oils instead of synthetic ingredients, artificial fragrances, or harsh chemicals.
- Beyond Ingredients: The quality doesn’t solely depend on ingredients. Factors like the soap maker’s skill, the methods used (e.g., hot process), and the level of superfatting (adding extra oil for a gentler formula) all contribute to the final product.
Recommendations:
- Consider researching reputable handmade brands with transparent practices and a commitment to quality ingredients.
- Look for products that align with your specific skin or hair concerns.
- If possible, sample products before committing to a full size to assess compatibility and personal preference.
How do you achieve natural fragrance / smell in your products?
At YAZHS, we prioritize natural ingredients throughout our product line. This means we exclusively utilize essential oils to create a pleasant scent in our handmade products.
Essential Oils vs. Synthetic Fragrances:
While essential oils offer a natural and often therapeutic aroma, their inherent properties may limit the available fragrance options compared to synthetic fragrances. Additionally, the natural scent of essential oils may not be as long-lasting on the skin as synthetic alternatives.
Benefits of Essential Oils:
Despite these limitations, essential oils provide unique benefits beyond just fragrance. Many essential oils possess potential skin-nourishing properties, depending on the specific oil used. We carefully select essential oils that complement the overall functionality of our products.
Transparency and Commitment:
We understand the concerns surrounding chemical fragrances and parabens. We are committed to complete transparency, and all our ingredients are clearly listed on our product labels. You can be confident that our products are free of harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and parabens.
Yazhs Castile liquid soaps are suitable for people of all ages?
Our YAZHS Castile liquid soaps are formulated with Extra Virgin Olive Oil alone and may be suitable for a wide range of ages. We have customers who use our products on babies (6 months and older) as well as mature adults (80 years and older).
Important Considerations:
- For Babies: While generally safe for the body, we recommend avoiding using Castile liquid soap on a baby’s face due to potential eye irritation during bath time. Consider a dedicated baby wash for the face. Dilution with water can be an option for the body, but always consult your pediatrician for specific recommendations.
- Patch Testing: Regardless of age, we strongly recommend performing a patch test before full-body use. Apply a small amount of the soap to a non-sensitive area (like the inner forearm) and monitor for any signs of irritation for 24 hours. If no reaction occurs, it’s likely safe for general use.
- Skin Sensitivities: Even though Castile soaps are generally well-tolerated, some individuals with severe skin conditions may experience sensitivities. If you have concerns, consult a dermatologist before introducing any new product to your skincare routine.
Gentle and Effective:
Overall, Castile liquid soaps are known for their gentle cleansing properties, making them a potentially good choice for people of various ages. However, individual needs and potential sensitivities should always be considered.

Is it suitable to use your Castile body wash on the face?
Our Castile body wash is formulated for gentle cleansing and may be suitable for some individuals on the face. However, the skin on the face is often more delicate than the body. Here are some additional considerations:
- Facial Concerns: If you have specific facial concerns like acne, excessive oiliness, or dryness, it might be better to use a face wash specifically formulated to address those needs. These cleansers may contain additional ingredients that target those specific issues.
- Individual Needs: Ultimately, the best way to determine if our body wash is suitable for your face is to try it and see how your skin reacts.
We Recommend:
For optimal facial cleansing, we recommend considering our Castile face washes designed specifically for the delicate facial skin. These face washes may offer additional benefits like targeted ingredients for specific concerns and potentially specific formulations.
Are you against surfactants in skincare? Are surfactants really bad?
No, we are not totally against surfactants in skin care products. We even use a surfactant called Coco Glucoside in our shampoo for its anti-static property. This specific property can’t be achieved in castile liquid soap alone. So we add a small quantity of Coco Glucoside to our all-in-one natural shampoo.
And most importantly though not all surfactants are bad, their production methods involve extensive processing, so we can’t expect a skin stimulating experience in them. While castile liquid soaps can offer more benefits for every skin types.

- Amount: This shampoo utilizes natural cleansing elements. While effective, longer hair may require a slightly larger amount of shampoo compared to shorter hair. The recommended usage quantity is listed on the product label for your reference.
- Dilution: To optimize the cleansing experience, consider diluting the required amount of shampoo with water (e.g., 1:4 ratio) before applying it to your hair. This can help create a lather and distribute the product more evenly.
How’s Yazhs Castile Liquid Soaps are thickened?
At Yazhs we thicken our Castile liquid soaps by using Salt.
All our products with thicker consistency are thickened with salt. We don’t use any thickening agents / gums.
Things to do when switching over from commercial soaps to Castile liquid soaps?
If you’ve been using conventional soaps for a long time, your skin may require an adjustment period when switching to all-natural products. Here’s what to expect:
- Skin Adaptation: Conventional soaps can sometimes strip away natural oils, prompting the skin to overproduce sebum to compensate. Switching to a gentler all-natural cleanser may initially feel different, as the skin adjusts to its new routine.
- Gentle Introduction: To ease the transition, consider a patch test on your forearm for 3-4 days to allow your skin to become accustomed to the new product.
- Gradual Integration: Once comfortable with the patch test, you can gradually incorporate the all-natural body wash and soap into your bathing routine.
Potential Benefits:
Over time, some individuals may experience positive changes in their skin health after transitioning to all-natural products. However, individual results may vary.
Are soaps bad for skin? Planning to go soap free?
Soap plays a crucial role in maintaining good hygiene. Here’s a breakdown of its benefits and considerations:
- Cleansing Power: Soap effectively removes dirt, oils, sweat, and other impurities from the skin’s surface. This helps prevent clogged pores, bacterial growth, and body odor.
- Importance of Formulation: The quality of a soap significantly impacts its effect on the skin. Soaps made with high-quality ingredients and proper techniques are generally gentler and more beneficial.
- Understanding pH Level: While soap has a higher pH than the skin, properly formulated options can cleanse effectively without excessive dryness.
Soap-Free Cleansers:
Soap-free cleansers may be gentler on sensitive skin, but they might not be as effective in removing certain types of dirt and oil. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your individual skin type and needs.
Castile Liquid Soap:
Yazhs Castile liquid soap, made with Extra Virgin Olive oil, is known for its gentle cleansing properties. It can help remove impurities while potentially allowing the skin to sweat naturally.
Key Takeaways:
- Well-formulated soaps are beneficial for maintaining hygiene and overall skin health.
- The quality of ingredients and manufacturing techniques plays a significant role.
- Soap-free cleansers may be an option for specific skin sensitivities.
What are the disadvantages of Castile liquid soaps?
Considerations When Using Castile Liquid Soap:
Castile liquid soaps, while offering gentle cleansing benefits, come with some unique characteristics:
- Lower Lather: Made with extra virgin olive oil alone, Castile liquid soaps may produce less lather than some conventional body washes containing synthetic surfactants. This doesn’t necessarily affect their cleansing ability, but it can differ from some user preferences.
- Subtle Fragrance: Yazhs Castile liquid soaps utilize only essential oils for fragrance. While these offer natural aromatic benefits, the scent may not be as long-lasting compared to synthetic fragrances used in some body washes.
Alternative Considerations:
At YAZHS, we offer a variety of Castile liquid soaps formulated with Extra Virgin Olive oil to cater to individual preferences.
Focus on Benefits:
Despite these considerations, Castile liquid soaps can be a good choice for those seeking a gentle and natural cleansing experience.

Our Commitment:
Yazhs is committed to providing you with natural alternatives for both personal care and household cleaning needs. We believe in caring for your well-being and the planet by offering safe and effective cleaning solutions.
Why does Yazhs opt for plastic bottles when marketing organic products and promoting biodegradability?
At Yazhs, while our commitment to selling environmentally conscious liquid soaps remains steadfast, we encourage our customers to responsibly dispose of used plastic bottles by utilizing recycling services. These PET bottles can be collected by recyclers who often offer compensation in return.
The majority of our plastic bottles are crafted from recycled PET, contributing to our efforts to mitigate plastic waste accumulation in landfills.
Given the nature of our liquid soap products and their practical usage in cleaning routines, packaging them in glass bottles poses safety concerns due to potential breakage and associated hazards. Consequently, we refrain from using glass bottles to ensure user safety and convenience.
Continually striving for sustainable solutions, we have explored alternatives such as corn starch-based bioplastic pouches. However, current limitations regarding thickness and heat-sealing mechanisms prevent their application for larger volumes. We eagerly anticipate advancements in bioplastic technology to enable the creation of thicker, heat-sealed pouches and bottles, facilitating a fully biodegradable consumer experience.
All our product stickers are paper based stickers without any lamination to help in easy disposal & biodegradation.
